A Level Examination Results – Summer 2019 https://www.cchsg.com/index.php/item/809-a-level-results-summer-2019 https://www.cchsg.com/index.php/item/809-a-level-results-summer-2019 A Level Examination Results – Summer 2019

We congratulate Year 13 on an outstanding set of results. The students have achieved the highest percentage of A* grades in the history of the school.

58% of all grades were A*/A

28% of all grades were A*

82% of all grades were A*/B

18 students achieved 4 A*/A grades, including EPQ and a further 17 achieved 3 A*/A grades.

Each year around a quarter of our Sixth Form students join us in Year 12 from other local secondary schools. Credit is due for the foundation they received at these schools which, in addition to the support at CCHSG, helped them to achieve excellent A level results.

Mrs Marshall said “We are extremely proud of the students and these outstanding results will form a stepping stone to future success. We thank them for the tremendous contribution that they have made to CCHSG and wish them every happiness in the future.”

We are pleased to have been recognised nationally for our excellent results in 2018, based on data from the Department for Education and Ofsted, analysed by the Schools, Students and Teachers network (SSAT).

CCHSG was found to be among the best performing secondary schools in the country, receiving two awards for being in the top 10% of selective schools nationally for attainment and the top 10% for progress. The SSAT Educational Outcomes database compares all state-funded schools in England and the highest performing schools for a range of key measures are awarded SSAT Educational Outcomes Awards. The award will be presented during the summer term at a ceremony attended by winners from across the region.

Sue Williamson, Chief Executive of SSAT said:

“I am delighted that Colchester County High School for Girls has won two Educational Outcomes Awards.

This recognises one important aspect of the school’s work but at SSAT we believe an outstanding school has deep social justice at the heart of its plan; it subjects that plan to constant challenge and innovation; and it liberates teachers to perform brilliantly in the classroom. SSAT is pleased to recognise the quality of leadership and the hard work of all staff to ensure the success of every child. A big thank you and well done to students, parents, staff and governors.”

CCHSG Celebrates Top National GCSE results https://www.cchsg.com/index.php/item/778-2019-joint-best-gcse-exam-results https://www.cchsg.com/index.php/item/778-2019-joint-best-gcse-exam-results

CCHSG is delighted to announce that following the publication by the Department for Education of the figures for last year's GCSE results, according to the Telegraph ranking, CCHSG students performed the best nationally in 2018.  The school shared this top slot with Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet. These figures are based on the percentage of pupils achieving five or more A*-C/9-4 grades, combined with the DfE's Progress 8 measure.

Please click on the link below for more details.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/0/secondary-school-league-table-search-top-schools-gcse-results/

If a student makes the progress expected, the school’s Progress 8 score is 0.0. A score of 0.5 means pupils made, on average, half a grade more progress across their subjects than expected. CCHSG has a Progress 8 score of 1.22, which is particularly pleasing given that students join us already achieving at a high level.

We are extremely pleased for our students and truly grateful for the support provided by our staff, students, parents, carers and governors.

Colchester County High School for Girls Receives DfE Expansion Grant https://www.cchsg.com/index.php/item/764-20181204-dfe-expansion-news https://www.cchsg.com/index.php/item/764-20181204-dfe-expansion-news Executive Principal Gillian Marshall with Sixth Form Students Outside the new Sixth Form Atrium

CCHSG is one of only 16 grammar schools, across 12 counties in England to have been given a share of the Department for Education's £50m selective school expansion fund. The fund supports the expansion of selective schools that have plans to improve access for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

CCHSG is currently consulting on an expansion of student numbers for September 2020, potentially increasing admissions from 160 to 190. This is also a time of significant growth in the national number of students reaching secondary age. Across Colchester this increase is to be reflected in the establishment of an entirely new secondary school, approved by the Secretary of State last year, as part of the Local Authority’s 10 year plan. The Trinity College, in the Northern Growth Area of Colchester, is to be jointly led by Colchester County High School and The Gilberd School.

To allow for expansion permission has also be granted for CCHSG to begin applications for planning to create new buildings on the school site. It is hoped to construct a new teaching block with enhanced facilities focussing on art, a school library and additional teaching space. Executive Principal Gillian Marshall said:

“We are delighted by this decision, which potentially means that more students will benefit from the high quality educational opportunities that we can offer. We have always been keen to ensure that we prioritise access for disadvantaged students, and we have significant involvement with outreach and partnership work with local schools. The additional funding will enable us to give this important aspect of the school’s work even greater focus.”

The Big Build https://www.cchsg.com/index.php/item/739-the-big-build https://www.cchsg.com/index.php/item/739-the-big-build The Big Build

We would like to thank everyone in the school and local community for their patience and support during our extended period of building work.   The new Sixth Form Centre with its separate entrance atrium, ICT suite, lecture theatre and common room is now in use along with the new classroom bases, one of which is our Healthy Living studio.   As the first stage of the Big Build draws to a close, from the Healthy Pupils Capital Fund we have been awarded funding to improve our swimming pool facilities – this project will include an extended 25m indoor swimming pool with changing rooms.  We are also tremendously fortunate, through our own fundraising and the generous support of parents and the PTFA, to be able to provide an additional, and much needed multi-functional hall which will incorporate the new swimming pool.  We are absolutely delighted that our students will be rewarded with first class facilities to match their outstanding achievements.

CCHSG and The Gilberd School Announce the Formation of the Multi Academy “Alpha Trust” https://www.cchsg.com/index.php/item/705-alpha-trust-announcement https://www.cchsg.com/index.php/item/705-alpha-trust-announcement CCHSG and The Gilberd School Announce the Formation of the Multi Academy “Alpha Trust”

The Governing Board of Colchester County High School for Girls is pleased to announce that, after an extensive consultation process, we will be forming a multi academy trust (MAT) the “Alpha Trust”, working with The Gilberd School.  The Trust will also ultimately include the Trinity Free School to be built in North Colchester.

In forming a Multi Academy Trust, we sought partners who were like minded, with similar ethos and values, with whom we could share good practice.  By working collaboratively we aim to raise standards of achievement and expand the range of opportunities that we can offer our students.  We will also be able to provide greater opportunities for professional development for teachers, governors and school leaders.  Economies of scale also mean that together we can negotiate contracts and services that represent better value for money. The Governing Boards of the two schools share the ambition for their schools to provide an outstanding education for their students, while protecting each school’s role at the heart of its community and retaining its unique qualities and strengths.

The Headteachers of the two schools, Linda Exley and Gillian Marshall, announced that they were both excited by the potential opportunities that the formation of the Trust would offer and looked forward to working closely together to strengthen and develop links between their two school communities.
