Beauxbo properties
is a collection of buildings developed by architects, Ken Schroeder
and Ann Temple. The name Beauxbo is derived from a French slang
term which is a combination of two words: 'bourgeois' and 'bohemian'.
The portfolio consists of common spaces and buildings (bourgeois)
that have been renovated with an unconventional (bohemian) twist.
Typically the buildings chosen are small industrial masonry structures
with interesting structural features and histories. Some are landmark
properties. Their locations span from South Loop to Old Town to
Lincoln Square. The design program is loft-like, multi-use spaces
with whimsical and sophisticated use of new materials. Old structure
is juxtaposed with contemporary elements. Nothing is too precious
that its use and function can't be played with and 'tweaked'.
Outdoor space is integrated with interior space planning; roof
openings are carved out, bridges criss-cross courtyards, walls
are punctured for views and light, etc. And it works.
